Harlan Stock Joins as Section Chief of Musculoskeletal Radiology

The Department of Radiology and Radiological Sciences is proud to welcome Harlan Stock, MD, MBA, who has joined our team as the new Section Chief of Musculoskeletal Radiology. Dr. Stock previously served as Section Chief of Musculoskeletal Imaging at SUNY Upstate Medical University in New York and brings a wealth of experience to the role.

"I'm deeply honored and incredibly excited to have the opportunity to lead a talented group of dedicated musculoskeletal radiologists,” Dr. Stock says. “Our section provides subspecialized imaging services for Vanderbilt patients centered on advancing musculoskeletal care, including within orthopedics and sports medicine, rheumatology and oncology.”

He adds: “Our section will continue to advance our radiology department's overall mission of providing high-quality diagnostic imaging services and outstanding patient care within an academic, research-driven environment for our trainees. Developing the next generation of physician leaders is core to our mission and I am grateful to our chair, Dr. Brown, for his leadership and vision."

“We are thrilled to have Dr. Stock join the Department of Radiology,” says Daniel Brown, MD, FSIR, Chair of the Department of Radiology and Radiological Sciences. “Based on his leadership by example at SUNY Upstate, Dr. Stock’s guidance will allow us to durably grow the Musculoskeletal Radiology section.”

Dr. Stock earned his medical degree from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City in 2003. He completed his diagnostic radiology residency at Lenox Hill Hospital and fellowship in musculoskeletal imaging at Hospital for Special Surgery, both in New York. He started his career as an Assistant Professor at UConn Health in Farmington, Connecticut, where he assumed his first role as Section Chief of Musculoskeletal Imaging.

Prior to medical school, Dr. Stock received his bachelor’s degree in English from Amherst College in Massachusetts. In 2014, he went back to school to receive his MBA from the UConn School of Business.

Dr. Stock has had a diverse and storied career, working within strategy and clinical operations for companies like PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) and CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield.
